Circular Economy Survey

The Resources Centre of Excellence conducted a survey last year on behalf of the Queensland Government’s Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science, and Innovation to gather insights and perspectives on circular economy practices within our network, and understand how we can best support you in your circular economy efforts. This resulted in our first Regional Situational Analysis. We can’t believe it’s been a whole year, but we are now issuing our second survey to understand what has changed since last year in the Greater Whitsunday Region economy!

Please find the 2025 survey linked here. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, and we would greatly value your responses!

Last year we received high input from our community, with a total of 40 stakeholders from agriculture, mining, and tourism consulted, and learned a lot about circularity in our region!

Did you know that over 95% of stakeholders surveyed saw CE as important or moderately important to the future of their business? And while a majority (84%) of survey participants demonstrated a medium or high level of awareness of circular economy, only 66% of participants had a medium or high level of working knowledge - exposing a market gap in the specific skills required by local businesses for circular economic transition.

We also learned what sectors are moving faster towards circular practices, such as the agricultural sector with a higher amount of circular initiatives focused upstream, and where all sectors require additional support, such as how to position themselves to capture value from Australia’s transition to a circular economy.

The Resources Centre of Excellence is collaborating with our partners such as the Greater Whitsunday Alliance to ensure related strategies in the region draw on the insights gleaned from last year’s report, such as the inclusion of upskilling local business in circular design & business strategies as an enabler in the Strategy to unlock economic growth and diversification for the Greater Whitsunday METS sector.

Your input will contribute to an updated understanding of current practices, challenges, and opportunities related to the circular economy. Responses will be anonymised and aggregated to ensure confidentiality and will be used solely for research purposes to inform our sustainability strategy.

If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact events@rcoe.com.au

Thank you in advance- we greatly appreciate your time and contribution. The insights gathered will enable us to tailor our efforts and identify areas where we can collectively make a meaningful impact toward a more sustainable future.
