Virtual reality system to revolutionise resource sector
To celebrate the culmination of the Enabling Future Work Skills Development Project, the Resources Centre of Excellence (RCOE) launched a new addition to their Paget facility – the LBF Collaboration Station.
Namesake Local Buying Foundation (LBF) funded the installation of a Virtual Reality (VR) system that was specially developed for the RCOE. This investment will enable people and organisations across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday (MIW) region to access this technology in a cost-effective way.
The launch event showcased a real-time, practical demonstration of the VR technology, designed by QUT Institute for Future Environments.
RCOE General Manager Steven Boxall said that the technology was formulated to have relevance across all industries.
“This immersive technology will be of national significance in educating and training the resources workforce of the future,” said Mr Boxall.
“Through this collaborative effort, we are able to take another step closer to transforming our region into a global hub for resources excellence.”
LBF Advisory Committee Chair Melissa Westcott said the RCOE values align with their vision to “facilitate workforce development, innovation and foster growth in the regional economy”.
“We recognise the important role the resources sector has in our economic success,” said Ms Westcott.
“We’re proud to be able to provide cutting-edge technology to a world-class facility, that will ultimately benefit MIW region as a whole.
“We look forward to seeing this project bring about more opportunity for growth, creating better outcomes for the workforce and sustainability for the industry.”
